== Knowledge retention ==
Knowledge retention is part of knowledge management. It helps convert tacit form of knowledge into an explicit form. According to DeLong(2004) <ref>{{Cite book|last=Delong|first=DW|title=Lost Knowledge: Confronting the threat of aging workforce.|year=2004}}</ref> knowledge retention strategies are divided into four main categories:
* Human resources, processes and practices
* Knowledge transfer practices
* Knowledge recovery practices
* Information technologies used to capture, store and share knowledge.

Knowledge retention projects are usually introduced in three stages: decision making, planning and implementation. There are differences among researchers on the terms of the stages.
