Hoorn has an [[oceanic climate]] (Köppen: [[Köppen climate classification#Cfb: Oceanic climates|Cfb]]) strongly influenced by its proximity to the [[North Sea]] to the west, with prevailing westerly winds. Both winters and summers are considered mild, although winters can get quite cold, while summers are quite warm occasionally.

Hoorn, as well as most of the North Holland province, lies in [[Hardiness zone|USDA hardiness zone]] 8b. Frosts mainly occur during spells of easterly or northeasterly winds from the inner [[European continent]]. Even then, because Hoorn is surrounded on three sides by large bodies of water, nights rarely fall far below {{convert|0|°C|0}}.

Summers are moderately warm with a number of hot days every month. The average daily high in August is {{convert|21.6|°C|1}}, and {{convert|30|°C}} or higher is only measured on 1.8 days per year on average (2009–2018),<ref name="Weer">{{cite web|url=http://weergegevens.nl/averages.aspx?jaar=2019&maand=1&dag=1&jaar2=2019&maand2=1&dag2=31&station=249 |title=Gemiddelden en extremen Berkhout |publisher=Weergegevens.nl |language=nl |access-date=23 March 2019}}</ref> placing Hoorn in [[Hardiness zone#American Horticultural Society heat zones|AHS heat zone]] 2. It is also common to have at least a couple of snowy days each year.

The [[Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute]] has one of its [[weather station]]s located in [[Berkhout]], a village situated west of Hoorn.
