At the [[2010 United States Census|2010 census]] the city had 7,444 people, 3,603 households, and 1,811 families. The population density was {{convert|2091.0|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 3,905 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1096.9|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The city's racial makeup was 96.0% White, 0.7% African American, 0.4% Native American, 1.1% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. There were 3,603 households, of which 22.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.2% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 49.7% were non-families. 42.7% of households were one person and 19.8% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.02 and the average family size was 2.81.

The median age was 43.4 years. 19% of the city's population was under age 18; 7.1% was between age 18 and 24; 26% was from age 25 to 44; 26.1% was from 45 to 64, and 21.7% were age 65 or older. The city's gender makeup was 46.2% male and 53.8% female.
