==Honours and awards== Wells was appointed [[Member of the Order of the British Empire]] (MBE) in the [[1982 Birthday Honours]] for services to athletics.<ref>United Kingdom: {{London Gazette |issue=49008 |date=11 June 1982 |pages=17 |supp=y }}</ref> He was also inducted alongside [[Eric Liddell]] and [[Wyndham Halswelle]] (two other former Scottish Athletic Olympic Champions) into the [[Scottish Sports Hall of Fame]].
