Three animated films have been nominated for Best Picture: ''[[Beauty and the Beast (1991 film)|Beauty and the Beast]]'' (1991), ''[[Up (2009 film)|Up]]'' (2009), and ''[[Toy Story 3]]'' (2010). The latter two were nominated after the Academy expanded the number of nominees, but none have won.

''[[The Silence of the Lambs (film)|The Silence of the Lambs]]'' (1991) is the only horror/thriller film to win Best Picture.
