==Inhibitors== A variety of natural and synthetic inhibitors of ATP synthase have been discovered.<ref name="inhibitors">{{cite journal | vauthors = Hong S, Pedersen PL | title = ATP synthase and the actions of inhibitors utilized to study its roles in human health, disease, and other scientific areas | journal = Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews | volume = 72 | issue = 4 | pages = 590β641, Table of Contents | date = December 2008 | pmid = 19052322 | pmc = 2593570 | doi = 10.1128/MMBR.00016-08 }}</ref> These have been used to probe the structure and mechanism of ATP synthase. Some may be of therapeutic use. There are several classes of ATP synthase inhibitors, including peptide inhibitors, polyphenolic phytochemicals, polyketides, organotin compounds, polyenic Ξ±-pyrone derivatives, cationic inhibitors, substrate analogs, amino acid modifiers, and other miscellaneous chemicals.<ref name="inhibitors"/> Some of the most commonly used ATP synthase inhibitors are [[oligomycin]] and [[N,N'-Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide|DCCD]].
