The U.S. [[Federal Railroad Administration]] was in talks with a number of countries concerning high-speed rail, notably Japan, France and Spain. On 16 May 2009, FRA Deputy Chief Karen Rae expressed hope that Japan would offer its technical expertise to [[High-speed rail in Canada|Canada]] and the [[High-speed rail in the United States|United States]].
