===John Howard Davies=== [[John Howard Davies]] (1939β2011) joined the BBC as a production assistant in 1966, and became a television director and producer specializing in comedy. Davies was also the producer of all four seasons of ''The Good Life''. When asked what the best formula for a sitcom is, he replied "All the best sitcom characters are relentlessly horrible."<ref name="GUARDjhd"/>
