West Chicago is home to the Truitt-Hoff Nature Preserve, part of [[DuPage County]]’s West Chicago Prairie [[Forest Preserve]], one of the largest and best preserved prairies in the Midwest.<ref name="truitt">{{cite web |title=West Chicago Prairie |url=http://www.dupageforest.com/Conservation/ForestPreserves/West_Chicago_Prairie.html |publisher=[[Forest Preserve District of DuPage County]]|access-date=18 January 2013}}</ref> This prairie was discovered by then-mayor Richard Truitt in 1976 during one of his frequent walks in the open land west of the city. The prairie had been preserved because it was on railroad right-of-way land that had never been cultivated.<ref name="truitt"/>

The city is also home to [[Forest Preserve District of DuPage County#Kline Creek Farm|Kline Creek Farm]], an 1890s [[farm museum|living history farm]].<ref>{{cite web|title=Kline Creek Farm |url=http://www.dupageforest.com/page.aspx?id=228|publisher=Forest Preserve District of DuPage County|access-date=18 January 2013}}</ref> as well as the [[West Chicago City Museum]], located in a historic building that once served as Town Hall.
