==Ecofeminism== Shiva plays a major role in the global ecofeminist movement. According to her 2004 article ''Empowering Women,''<ref name="EmpoweringWomen">[http://likeawhisper.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/empoweringwomen.pdf Dr. Vandana Shiva: Empowering Women] 10 June 2004 by [[WordPress.com]]</ref> a more sustainable and productive approach to agriculture can be achieved by reinstating the system of farming in India that is more centred on engaging women. She advocates against the prevalent "patriarchal logic of exclusion," claiming that a woman-focused system would be a great improvement.<ref name="Vandana Shiva: Empowering Women">[http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/trust/2015/story/2004/06/040609_vandana_shiva.shtml] 4 June 2004 {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110606113318/http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/trust/2015/story/2004/06/040609_vandana_shiva.shtml|date=6 June 2011}}</ref> She believes that ecological destruction and industrial catastrophes threaten daily life, and the maintenance of these problems have become women's responsibility.<ref>{{Cite book|title = Ecofeminism|last = Shiva|first = Vandana|publisher = Zed Books|year = 1993}}</ref> Cecile Jackson has criticised some of Shiva's views as [[essentialist]].<ref name="C J">Cecile Jackson: Radical Environmental Myths: A Gender Perspective, 1995</ref> Shiva co-wrote the book ''Ecofeminism'' in 1993 with "German anarchist and radical feminist sociologist"<ref name=":2">{{Cite journal|last=Utzeri|first=Mounia|date=2017|title=Patriarchy and Accumulation on a World Scale: Women in the International Division of Labour|journal=Maria Mies and Vandana Shiva, Ecofeminism|volume=15|via=SAGE Publications}}</ref> Maria Mies. It combined Western and Southern feminism with "environmental, technological and feminist issues, all incorporated under the term ecofeminism".<ref name=":2" /> These theories are combined throughout the book in essays by Shiva and Mies. Stefanie Lay described the book as a collection of thought-provoking essays but also found in it a lack of new ecofeminist theories and contemporary analysis, as well as "overall failure to acknowledge the work of others".<ref>{{Cite journal|last=Lay|first=Stefanie|date=1994|title="Ecofeminism" by Maria Mies and Vandana Shiva|journal=Institute of Race Relations|volume=36}}</ref>
