==Role in contemporary Brisbane==
The Story Bridge features prominently in the annual [[RiverFire|Riverfire]] fireworks display and is illuminated at night.  In 1990, road traffic was halted so pedestrians could celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bridge's construction.<ref name="pb"/> The bridge was again closed to road traffic on 5 July 2015 to celebrate the 75th anniversary.
