Its current MP is [[Caroline Nokes]] of the [[Conservative Party (UK)|Conservative Party]]. Elected in the [[2010 United Kingdom general election|general election on 6 May 2010]], after boundary changes, she defeated the [[Liberal Democrats (UK)|Liberal Democrat]] MP [[Sandra Gidley]] with a 4.5% swing to Conservative from Liberal Democrat and a majority of 4,156 votes. [[Norton Knatchbull, 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma]], grandson of [[Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma]], is the current [[High steward (civic)|High Steward]], a position which dates from the 17th century (see above).
