King was taken to Pacifica Hospital after his arrest, where he was found to have suffered a fractured [[zygomatic arch|facial bone]], a broken right ankle, and multiple bruises and lacerations.<ref name="Cannon. p. 205">Cannon. ''Official Negligence'': p. 205.</ref> In a negligence claim filed with the city, King alleged he had suffered "11 skull fractures, permanent brain damage, broken [bones and teeth], kidney failure [and] emotional and physical trauma."<ref name="report 91">{{Cite book|url=https://archive.org/details/ChristopherCommissionLAPD|title=Report of the Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department (Christopher Commission Report)|last=The Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department|date=1991}}</ref>{{rp|8}} Blood and urine samples were taken from King five hours after his arrest. At this time, King's [[blood alcohol content]] was measured to be 0.075%. This indicated that King was intoxicated during the initial arrest as defined by California law, but with the samples taken after a five hour delay, were then below the legal limit of 0.08%.<ref name="report 91"/>{{rp|8}} The tests also showed traces of marijuana (26&nbsp;ng/ml).<ref name="report 91"/>{{rp|8}} Pacifica Hospital nurses reported that the officers who accompanied King (including Wind) openly joked and bragged about the number of times they had hit King.<ref name="report 91"/>{{rp|15}} Officers obtained King's identification from his clothes pockets at that time.
