[[Administrative divisions of Ukraine|Ukraine is divided into]] 24 [[Oblasts of Ukraine|oblast]]s (regions). Each oblast is divided into [[Raions of Ukraine|raions]] (districts). The current administrative divisions [[Administrative divisions of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic|remain the same as]] the local administrations of [[Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic|Soviet Ukraine]]. The heads of the oblasts and raions are appointed and dismissed by the [[president of Ukraine]]. They serve as representatives of the central government in Kyiv. They govern over locally elected assemblies.
