===1992: First Masters title===
In 1992, Sampras reached the quarterfinals of the [[1992 French Open|French Open]] for the first of three consecutive years, made it to the [[1992 Wimbledon Championships|Wimbledon]] semifinals, and was the runner-up at the [[1992 US Open (tennis)|US Open]] to [[Stefan Edberg]]. 1992 was also the year when Sampras made his only competitive appearance at the Olympics. The event was played on clay, his worst surface. Nonetheless, Sampras advanced to the third round before giving up a two-set lead and losing to [[Andrei Cherkasov]] of Russia.
