Ozone oxidizes [[nitric oxide]] to [[nitrogen dioxide]]:

This reaction is accompanied by [[chemiluminescence]].

The {{chem2|NO2}} can be further oxidized to [[nitrate radical]]:

The {{chem2|NO3}} formed can react with {{chem2|NO2}} to form [[dinitrogen pentoxide]] ({{chem2|N2O5}}).

Solid [[nitronium perchlorate]] can be made from {{chem2|NO2, ClO2}}, and {{chem2|O3}} gases:

Ozone does not react with ammonium [[salt (chemistry)|salts]], but it oxidizes [[ammonia]] to [[ammonium nitrate]]:
