==Historic designations==
The Old Faithful Inn was placed on the [[National Register of Historic Places]] on July 23, 1973.<ref name="nris"/> It was designated a [[National Historic Landmark]] on May 28, 1987.<ref name="nhlsum"/><ref name="nrhpinv">{{Cite journal|url={{NHLS url|id=73000226}}|title=National His3toric Landmark Nomination: Old Faithful Inn|author=Laura Soulliere Harrison|format=PDF|date=1985|publisher=National Park Service|access-date=2009-06-21}} and {{NHLS url|id=73000226|title=''Accompanying 28 photos, porch and interior, from 1985''|photos=y}}&nbsp;{{small|(2.94&nbsp;MB)}}</ref> It is the central element in the [[Old Faithful Historic District]], which includes the [[Old Faithful Lodge]] on the other side of Old Faithful. The Lodge, which was designed by [[Gilbert Stanley Underwood]] to provide dining and guest services to a community of tent cabins, is lower and more understated in nature, but compatibly rustic.
