==Geography==
Oil City, Pennsylvania is located at the confluence of the [[Allegheny River]] and [[Oil Creek (Allegheny River)|Oil Creek]] at {{Coord|41.428280|-79.707327|type:city_region:US|format=dms|display=inline}}.<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref>  According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of {{convert|4.7|sqmi|km2}}, of which  {{convert|4.5|sqmi|km2}} is land and {{convert|0.2|sqmi|km2}} (4.65%) is water.

Many layers of rock and sedimentary material containing fossils can be seen on the [[hill|bluffs]] in and around Oil City.  Oil City is framed by the surrounding foothills with the Allegheny River winding through downtown.
