During the [[Second Sino-Japanese War]], the Japanese used Manchukuo as a base to conduct their invasion of the rest of China. The Manchu general [[Tong Linge]] was killed in action by the Japanese in the [[Battle of Beiping–Tianjin]], which marked the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. In the summer of 1939, a border dispute between Manchukuo and the [[Mongolian People's Republic]] resulted in the [[Battle of Khalkhin Gol]].
