On May 16, 1984, after recording was complete, Madonna sang "Like a Virgin" and "Dress You Up" at a party offered by artist [[Keith Haring]] at New York's [[Paradise Garage]].<ref name="ClassicPopMakingof" /> Four months later, on September 14, Madonna opened the inaugural [[1984 MTV Video Music Awards|MTV Video Music Awards]] ceremony with a performance of "Like a Virgin".
