[[Mount Elbert]], {{convert|12|mi}} southwest of Leadville, is the [[List of mountain peaks of the Rocky Mountains#Highest prominent summits|highest summit]] of the Rocky Mountains of North America and the highest point in the Colorado and the entire [[Mississippi River#Watershed|Mississippi River drainage basin]]. An [[Ultra-prominent peak|ultra-prominent]] {{convert|14440|ft|m|0|adj=on}} fourteener, Mount Elbert is the [[List of mountain ranges of Colorado#Mountain ranges|highest summit]] of the Sawatch Range and the second-highest summit in the [[contiguous United States]] after [[Mount Whitney]] in California. [[Mount Massive]], {{convert|10.6|mi|abbr=on}} west-southwest of Leadville, at {{convert|14428|ft|abbr=on}} is the second highest summit in the Rocky Mountains and state of Colorado, and the third highest in the contiguous United States.
