The city had 63 police officers in 2010. In 2013 it had 25 police officers. Inkster Justice Center, which is to house the Inkster Police Department and the 22nd District Court, was scheduled to be opened in Spring 2014. In 2017, it was reported that a one-time property tax assessment of nearly $200 was levied on Inkster residents to cover settlements in [[police brutality]] cases.
