===Hellenistic period (325β250 BC)=== {{Main|Seleucid Empire}} Around 325 BC,<ref name="mccoy"/> [[Alexander the Great]] sent his top admiral, [[Androsthenes of Thasos]], to survey the entire Persian Gulf.
