==Death==
Upon returning home one day, Carver suffered a bad fall down a flight of stairs; he was found unconscious by a maid who took him to a hospital. Carver died January 5, 1943, at the age of 78 or 79 from complications ([[anemia]]) resulting from this fall.<ref>(Obituary)[https://www.rarenewspapers.com/view/696439 NEW YORK TIMES]; "Dr. Carver is Dead; Negro Scientist" January 6, 1943</ref> His death came when he was sitting up in bed while painting a Christmas card which said, "Peace on earth and goodwill to all men."
