===Metropolitan area=== According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of {{convert|55.2|sqmi|km2}}, of which, {{convert|53.8|sqmi|km2}} of it is land and {{convert|1.4|sqmi|km2}} of it (2.59%) is water. Fayetteville is bordered along the north by [[Springdale, Arkansas|Springdale]] and [[Johnson, Arkansas|Johnson]]. At times, this transition is seamlessly urban. Although the Metropolitan Statistical Area does not consist of the usual principal-city-with-[[suburbs]] geography, Fayetteville's adjacent communities include [[Elkins, Arkansas|Elkins]], [[Farmington, Arkansas|Farmington]], [[Greenland, Arkansas|Greenland]], [[Habberton, Arkansas|Habberton]], [[Johnson, Arkansas|Johnson]], and [[Wyman, Arkansas|Wyman]].
