===Distribution and playback (1990s, early 2000s)=== In the late 1990s and early 2000s, fansubs were primarily distributed through physical means like VHS or Beta tapes and mailed CD-Rs.{{cn|date=April 2024}} Many fans did not have high-speed Internet and were unable to download large files.
