In 1928, he married the English actress [[Helena Pickard]].<ref name=times>{{cite news |title=Deaths |issue=49962; col D |page=7 |work=[[The Times]] |date=22 September 1944}}</ref> They divorced in 1948; their son was actor [[Edward Hardwicke]].
