The Greens increased their national vote by 1.38 points to 9.04% at the [[2007 Australian federal election|2007 federal election]], with the election of South Australian senator [[Sarah Hanson-Young]] taking the number of Greens senators to five. In November 2008, Senator [[Christine Milne]] was elected deputy leader in a ballot contested against Senator [[Rachel Siewert]].
