===Climate===
Under the [[Köppen climate classification]], Atchison falls within either a [[hot-summer humid continental climate]] (''Dfa'') if the {{convert|0|°C}} isotherm is used or a [[humid subtropical climate]] (''Cfa'') if the {{convert|-3|°C}} isotherm is used. Over the course of a year, temperatures range from an average low of nearly {{convert|18.4|°F|°C|abbr=on}} in January to an average high of nearly {{convert|87.6|°F|°C|abbr=on}} in July.  The maximum temperature reaches {{convert|90|°F|°C|abbr=on}} an average of 38 days per year and reaches {{convert|100|°F|°C|abbr=on}} an average of three days per year.<ref name=NCEI/> The minimum temperature falls below the freezing point ({{convert|32|°F|°C|abbr=on}}) an average of 107 days per year.<ref name=NCEI/> Typically the first fall freeze occurs between the second week of October and the first week of November, and the last spring freeze occurs between the end of March and the third week of April.<ref name=NOAA/>

The area receives nearly {{convert|36.38|in|mm|abbr=on}} of precipitation during an average year, with the largest share being received in May, June, and July—with a combined 29 days of measurable precipitation.<ref name=NCEI/> During a typical year the total amount of precipitation may be anywhere from 25 to {{convert|52|in|mm|abbr=on}}. There are on average 89 days of measurable precipitation per year.<ref name=NCEI/> Winter snowfall averages almost {{convert|17|in|cm|abbr=on}}, but the median is less than {{convert|16|in|mm}}.  Measurable snowfall occurs an average of 10 days per year, with at least an inch of snow being received on six of those days.<ref name=NCEI/> Snow depth of at least an inch occurs an average of 23 days per year.<ref name=NCEI/>
