On January 16, 2015, Anti-Flag announced they would release their ninth studio album called ''[[American Spring (Anti-Flag album)|American Spring]]'' on the label [[Spinefarm Records]]. Justin revealed that this was done because the band believed that “Donald Trump IS the problem, so we have to go directly at the problem. You could say he’s a symptom of a larger problem and I believe that’s true, but he IS the symptom."<ref name=":0" /> In support of the album, Anti-Flag embarked on a world tour with dates throughout 2020. However, many of these dates were delayed to 2021 due to the [[COVID-19 pandemic]]. That same year, a documentary released called ''Beyond Barricades: The Story of Anti-Flag''. With the pandemic putting the band's touring on hold for a long period of time, Anti-Flag was able to spend much more time than usual writing new music. Upon finishing touring for ''20/20 Vision'', Anti-Flag returned to the studio to record their next album.
