In 1929, Hiss married [[Priscilla Hiss|Priscilla Fansler Hobson]], a [[Bryn Mawr College|Bryn Mawr]] graduate and grade school teacher. Priscilla, previously married to [[Thayer Hobson]], had a three-year-old son, Timothy Hobson (September 19, 1926 – January 8, 2018).<ref>

In the 1960s, Hiss was introduced to Isabel (Dowden) Johnson, a model, freelance writer, and editor.
