His death remained an open question to some, with allegations of involvement by either then–[[Prime Minister of Slovakia]] [[Vladimír Mečiar]] or the [[KGB]]. An investigation was reopened when some members of his Social Democratic Party demanded it. A second investigation ruled that the death was due to aquaplaning at excessive speed in rainy weather. Alexander Dubček's wife, Anna, died in 1990. They were survived by three sons: Pavol, who became a surgeon and traumatologist; Peter, who became an economist; and Milan.
