The installation lies on two [[peninsula]]s separated by the [[Bush River (Maryland)|Bush River]]. The northeastern is known as the ''Aberdeen Area'' and the southwestern is called the ''Edgewood Area'' (formerly the ''Edgewood Arsenal'').

According to the [[United States Census Bureau|U.S. Census Bureau]], the CDP has a total area of {{convert|12.0|sqmi|1}}, of which {{convert|11.4|sqmi|1}} is land and {{convert|0.6|sqmi}} (5.09%) is water.
