In December 2015, India and Japan signed an agreement for the construction of India's first high speed rail link [[Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor|connecting Mumbai to Ahmedabad]], the intention being to initially operate imported E5 Series Shinkansen sets on the line.
