===Conservative whip suspension===

In June 2023, following the report by the [[Commons Privileges Committee investigation into Boris Johnson|Commons Privileges Committee]], he said that Johnson had lied to parliament. Speaking on ''[[Sky News]]'', he said that Johnson had resigned before the [[Partygate]] report was published because he "saw it coming", adding "We've had four days of this report and the story doesn't change: Boris Johnson told a pack of lies. Boris Johnson got out from under, he saw it coming, he knew he hadn't a case to defend.
