On 23 May 2022, [[Anthony Albanese]] was sworn in as Australia's new prime minister. His Labor Party defeated Scott Morrison's conservative government in the [[2022 Australian federal election|election]]. The [[2021–2023 inflation surge|global surge]] in [[inflation]] that began in 2021, continued. The Australian inflation rate peaked at 7.5% at the end of 2022: a 32 year high.
