===College sports=== ====University of South Florida==== {{See also|South Florida Bulls}} The [[University of South Florida]] is the only [[NCAA Division I]] sports program in Tampa. USF began playing intercollegiate sports in 1965. The [[South Florida Bulls|Bulls]] established a [[South Florida Bulls men's basketball|men's basketball]] team in 1971 and a [[South Florida Bulls football|football team]] in 1997 and sponsor 17 teams in total. The Bulls joined the [[Big East Conference (1979β2013)|Big East]] in 2005, and the football team rose to as high as #2 in the [[Bowl Championship Series|BCS]] rankings in 2007. They are now part of the [[American Athletic Conference]].
