As of Census 2010, the racial makeup of the borough was 7.5% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 88.6% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.2% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.8% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.1% Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, 0.6% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.1% from two or more races. The racial makeup of the borough was 79.77% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 15.56% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.21% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.89% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.01% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.41% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.15% from two or more races. There were 4,696 households, of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 20.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
