Winterbottom was also responsible for the publishing at the FA. The first coaching bulletin was launched in 1946 and this became the ''FA Bulletin'' and then the ''FA News''. The ''FA Year Book'' was introduced in 1948, along with the ''FA Book for Boys'' annual.<ref>{{cite book|last=Mason, Tony|first=Holt, Richard|title=Sport in Britain 1945–2000}}</ref> The first coaching films and film strips followed in 1950.

An important landmark was the publication of Winterbottom's book, ''Soccer Coaching'', the first modern soccer coaching manual. This was followed by three more books, ''Skilful Soccer'', ''Modern Soccer'' and ''Training for Soccer''.
