===Formation===

Platelet activation occurs through injuries that damage the [[endothelium]] of the blood vessels, exposing the enzyme called [[factor VII]], a protein normally circulating within the vessels, to the [[tissue factor]], which is a protein encoded by the&nbsp;F3&nbsp;gene.
