In the 13th century, [[St. Thomas Aquinas]] brought the [[Aristotelianism|Aristotelian]] and [[Avicennism|Avicennian]] notions to the forefront of [[Christian philosophy|Christian thought]].<ref>González, Orestes J. 2019. <span class="plainlinks">[https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578522179?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860 ''Actus Essendi'' and the Habit of the First Principle in Thomas Aquinas. Einsiedler Press]</span>. {{ISBN|978-0-578-52217-3}}. pp. 201-7. </ref> These notions sharply contrasted with the previously-held [[Platonism|Platonic]] notions of the human mind as an entity that pre-existed somewhere in the heavens, before being sent down to join a body here on Earth (cf. Plato's ''[[Phaedo]]'' and ''[[Apology (Plato)|Apology]]'', as well as others).
