Dramatic changes occurred in the [[Soviet Union]] and the [[Eastern Bloc]] during [[history of the Soviet Union (1982–91)|the 1980s and early 1990s]], with ''[[perestroika]]'' and ''[[glasnost]]'', the [[fall of the Berlin Wall]] in November 1989, and finally the [[dissolution of the Soviet Union]] in December 1991.
