Since the outbreak of the [[Sudanese civil war (2023–present)|Sudanese Civil War]], the armed forces have garnered increasing popular support against the [[Rapid Support Forces]] from the Sudanese population, even from the staunchest critics of the military. The conflict has also deepened the SAF's reliance on [[Islamism|Islamist]] networks, which have mobilized civilians through [[Popular Resistance of Sudan|popular resistance brigades]].
