Under section 14 of the [[Northern Ireland Act 1998]], a bill which has been approved by the [[Northern Ireland Assembly]] is presented to the monarch by the [[Secretary of State for Northern Ireland]] for royal assent after a four-week waiting period during which the [[Attorney General for Northern Ireland]] may refer the bill to the Supreme Court.
