The Derwent adjoins or flows through the [[Orielton Lagoon|Pittwater–Orielton Lagoon]], [[Interlaken Lakeside Reserve]] and Goulds Lagoon, all [[wetland]]s of significance protected under the [[Ramsar Convention]].<ref name=doe/>
