In efforts to curtail recreational drug use, governments worldwide [[Prohibition of drugs|introduced several laws prohibiting the possession of almost all varieties of recreational drugs]] during the 20th century. The "[[War on Drugs]]" promoted by the United States, however, is now facing increasing criticism.
