===2020 census===
As of the [[2020 United States census|2020 census]], there were 7,653 people and 2,688 households residing in the county. There were 3,209 housing units in Pleasants county. The racial makeup of the county was 94.7% [[White American|White]], 1.2% [[African American]], 0.2% [[Asian American|Asian]], 0.3% [[Native Americans in the United States|Native American]], 0.3% from [[Race and ethnicity in the United States Census#Race|other races]], and 3.3% from [[Multiracial American|two or more races]]. [[Hispanic and Latino Americans|Hispanics or Latinos]] of any race were 0.8% of the population.

Of the 2,688 households, 58.1% were married couples living together, 20.5% had a female householder with no spouse present, 18.2% had a male householder with no spouse present. The average household and family size was 3.06. The median age in the county was 43.1 years with 19.2% of the population under 18. As of the [[census]] of 2000, there were 7,514 people, 2,887 households, and 2,136 families living in the county. The population density was {{convert|58|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 3,214 housing units at an average density of {{convert|25|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the county was 98.30% [[Race (United States Census)|White]], 0.48% [[Race (United States Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.47% [[Race (United States Census)|Native American]], 0.20% [[Race (United States Census)|Asian]], 0.07% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.49% from two or more races. 0.37% of the population were [[Race (United States Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Race (United States Census)|Latino]] of any race.

There were 2,887 households, out of which 32.70% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.10% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 10.40% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.00% were non-families. 22.90% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the county, the population was spread out, with 23.80% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 28.70% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 14.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 100.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.20 males.
