On December 1, 2023, following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee and a federal indictment, the House of Representatives voted 311–114 to expel Santos. After a special election was held on February 13, 2024, to replace expelled Republican George Santos, [[Thomas Suozzi]] (D) was elected as Santos' replacement for the 3rd congressional district of NY.
