The primary road through the city is [[U.S. Route 30 in Idaho|U.S. Route 30]] (US&nbsp;30), which passes just north of the majority of the community. On the northeast corner of the city is the western end of [[Old Highway 30 (Bannock and Caribou counties, Idaho)|Old Highway 30]], which is a former routing of US&nbsp;30 that runs parallel to and just south of the [[Union Pacific Railroad]] (UP) tracks (formerly [[Oregon Short Line]])<ref>{{cite map|url=https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/img4/ht_icons/overlay/ID/ID_Bancroft_238904_1949_62500_geo.jpg|title=Bancroft|year=1949|publisher=[[United States Geological Survey]]|scale=1:62,500|accessdate=September 21, 2022}}</ref> around the north end of the [[Fish Creek Range (Idaho)|Fish Creek Range]]. The current routing of US&nbsp;30 via Fish Creek Summit reduced the distance between Lava Hot Springs and [[Soda Springs, Idaho|Soda Springs]] by about {{convert|11|mi|km}}, but bypassed the city of [[Bancroft, Idaho|Bancroft]].
