== Government ==
Keyser's government is headed by a [[mayor]] and five-member [[city council]]. Each serves four-year, staggered terms. The mayor and two council members are elected at one election, with the remaining three council members elected two years later. Two of Keyser's longest serving mayors were John C. Freeland (1894–1967) and Irving T. Athey (1922–1997). Except for a two-year break in the 1950s due to a reelection defeat, Freeland served as mayor from 1937 until 1957.<ref>{{Cite news|title=John C.
